Olios: Drop-in classes led by professors
Join us for a weekend at the OlioHouse with stunning Fall foliage as Nikki Calonge takes us through yoga theory and practice outdoors under the trees and sun. We'll follow up philosophy and movement classes with a live sound bath experience + hands-on activities throughout the weekend like bread making, apple picking, mushroom foraging and more! All meals are included for the weekend.
From Nikki Calonge -
Using Katonah Yoga practice and theory, a decolonization lens, and creative expression, this weekend Olio will examine ways that knowledge is situated within us.
Can unsettling this information allow us to inhabit the magical abode of the body better? Is there a way to braid the practical, mystical, and authentic when examining the corporeal?
We'll move from yoga philosophy and theory to breathing techniques to the realm of movement and ask ourselves some questions: What is the raw material we are working with? What happens when we attach meaning to form? And what do we do with this information?
No experience in yoga necessary — we’re all beginners. Any blocks, blankets, and straps or other props you care to bring are welcome. Be prepared to participate in the reflective, the conversational, and the experiential. Get a feel for Katonah at: katonahyoga.com
Along with Nikki's programming we'll have a special sound bath experience by artist Ben Brown.
The Sound experience:
"Our listening creates a sanctuary for the homeless parts within another person." - Rachel Naomi Remen
The sound experience aims to encourage more space, rest, and resilience in the body and nervous system. Sound also provides an opportunity to experience ourselves more deeply and connect to our higher consciousness. We use sound to shift our consciousness and provide a path to the present moment. The expansion of the nervous system supports you, the work you do, and the community you serve.
Through various instruments and the environment, we create a capsule or moment in time to be fully present and alive.
The Space
If you thought the last OlioHouse was a nice escape from the city, you are going to lose it over our new space. We’ve got 50+ acres of woods for you to get lost in, a swimming pool to relax in, chickens to chase, a 100 year old barn, a flourishing garden and amazing local food/breweries surrounding us in idyllic upstate scenery.
Fall is our FAVORITE season upstate - and you’ll get plenty of time to wander the grounds and take in the changing colors and enjoy the fall harvest of fresh veggies and herbs.
There will also be other activities you can sign up for on site such as sourdough pizza making, herbal tea workshop, walking meditation in the woods, and more.
*All meals for the weekend are included*
COVID Protocols
We will have space for a limited number of guests to ensure the highest Covid safety protocols. This will ensure that everyone will have a private sleeping space (unless you are coming up with a friend or a pod) and all of our Olios for the weekend will be held outdoors. All guests are required to have been vaccinated and we will ask that each participant show a negative covid test result within 48 hours of arrival.
Nikki Calonge (she/her/siya) studies the relationship between movement and soul. She is currently pursuing her MS in Dance/Movement Therapy at the Pratt Institute. She offers well-informed yoga classes, remotely and in-person. Together, we deconstruct, develop, and edify the posture for each person with emphasis on process, never product.

Think Olio is here to put the liberation back into the liberal arts.
Classically, the liberal arts, were the education considered essential for a free person to take an active part in civic life. To counter a humanities that has been institutionalized and dehumanized we infuse critical thinking, openness, playfulness, and compassion into our learning experience.
