Think Olio and Groupmuse are teaming up to present a new phenomenon called the Oliomuse, where we combine the chamber music magic of Groupmuse with the power of Think Olio.

*OlioMuse* An Exploration of the String Quartet Across Time

Whitney George at Strand Bookstore

Fri, Aug 4 at 7 p.m.   |   90 minutes

We'll be hearing a dual lecture/musical performance to bring the history of the string quartet to life in BOTH our ears and our minds. Whitney George, professor at Brooklyn College Conservatory (+conductor +composer), will be walking us through an exploration of the development of the string quartet starting during the late Baroque period and taking us through to the 21st century. She will be dissecting in detail the musical intricacies of each seminal work discussed, to discover the thread that weaves disparate pieces into a cohesive narrative.

Interspersed throughout her lecture will be movements from and fragments of string quartet pieces that musically illustrate the lecture, performed live as we progress along this musical journey together. The string quartet will be performing pieces by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Ravel, Bartok, and more.

There will be free beer sponsored by Sixpoint Brewery at this event, so come snag a spot on the floor to relax and enjoy the warmth and double stimulation of this live music lecture.

George holds an undergraduate degree from the California Institute of the Arts, a masters degree from Brooklyn College Conservatory, and is currently continuing her studies as a PhD candidate at the CUNY Grad Center.
