Members Only | Jazz Age Field Trip to Long Island

Charles Riley at Nassau County Museum of Art

Sun, Jul 8 at 2 p.m.   |   90 minutes

One of our favorite Think Olio professors is now the director of the immaculate Nassau Country Museum of Art on Long Island. We went to visit and our minds were blown by the 150 acres of nature trails, contemporary sculptures, and of course the unbelievable art lining the walls of the old Frick mansion.

Riley generously offered to give our members a private tour on the last day of his Jazz Age exhibition and so we've decided to go all out and charter a yellow school bus for our first ever Think Olio Field Trip.

Here's the plan.

The bus will leave from Fort Greene at 2pm on Sunday, July 8th. We'll get to the museum a little before 3pm and we'll hand everyone a bagged lunch and beer to enjoy a little picnic in the sculpture garden. There will also be time to wander the trails and explore the grounds. Around 4pm we will make our way into the museum and Riley will give us an Olio-style private tour running us through the Picassos, Legers, and Miros and telling the stories of how he got his hands on them. Then we will share some wine and hang out for a bit before getting back on the bus at 6:30. We'll all be back in Fort Greene by 8pm after a wonderful little Sunday outing.

This trip is members only and it's $35 for lunch, beer, and a seat on the bus just to cover our costs. But if you'd prefer to arrange your own travel (and food) then it is just $15. Plus if you're a $60 member then you don't have to pay for anything, just use your code (you can upgrade at any time!).

Become a member and then email us for the link to buy your ticket. There are only 40 seats on the bus so reserve your seat ASAP.

What is Think Olio?

Think Olio is here to put the liberation back into the liberal arts.

Classically, the liberal arts, were the education considered essential for a free person to take an active part in civic life. To counter a humanities that has been institutionalized and dehumanized we infuse critical thinking, openness, playfulness, and compassion into our learning experience.
