The Epic Ramayana is a beautiful and heartbreaking tale of the adventures of Prince Rama and his beloved princess Sita. Considered the first poetic work in Sanskrit, its literary, philosophical and aesthetic brilliance inspired poets, artists, and readers for two thousand years and continues to do so even today. We invite you to join us for an introductory lecture on the Ramayana, accompanied by two young artists to create an immersive experience inspired by the myth.
During the Olio, Adluri will explore the epic’s manipulation of time, narration, desire and action to demonstrate the fragility and paramount importance to ethical action. A vocal performance of a traditional classical composition by Bandlamudi and a contemporary composition and performance by Clemente helps us appreciate the universality, beauty and versatility of the story of the hero Rama.
Vishwa holds PhDs from the New School and University of Marburg, Germany. He recently published 'The Nay Science' and is the author of many books and articles. Dr. Adluri teaches courses on: Approaches to Religion, Indian Philosophy, Christian Theology, Mysticism, Hinduism, art history and The Religious Meaning of Death. He has been thinking about Space, Time, and Death since he was 5.
Think Olio is here to put the liberation back into the liberal arts.
Classically, the liberal arts, were the education considered essential for a free person to take an active part in civic life. To counter a humanities that has been institutionalized and dehumanized we infuse critical thinking, openness, playfulness, and compassion into our learning experience.
