Hannibal "The Cannibal" Lector, especially the television incarnation, is an expert chef, serving food at the triple Michelin Star level. He is also the consummate villain of the modern age, and the dishes he creates are the height of evil.
Join me for this talk on the difficult position we are put in by one of the most charismatic villains ever created as we look at vegetarianism, ethical farming, locally sourced foods, New York City restaurant culture, 19th century painting, and ultimately the relationship between our natural impulses toward hedonism and a love of beauty on the one side -- and our desire to live a good life on the other.
Teacher: Geoff Klock
Geoff Klock has a doctorate from Oxford and is a professor at BMCC-CUNY. He teaches philosophy (mostly the philosophy of art), Shakespeare, canonical poetry in English, parables, and film (mostly movies about movies, and David Lynch). He is the author of four academic books on things like television shows and superheroes and has been cited 290 times.
